High-resolution ultrasound security scanner wand
Modern fabrication techniques permit manufacture of economical personnel and package security scanners integrating traditional metal detection with high-resolution ultrasound imaging of dense materials, such as explosives, hidden in clothing or small packages. currently deployed systems for security imaging are large, expensive, fixed installations with large power requirements, providing whole-body images susceptible to abuse, and undesirable doses of electromagnetic radiation to personnel being scanned.
The concept proposed provides a lighweight, portable, low-power solution for rapid screening of personnel and packages without exposing examinees to millimeter-wave radiation, or misuse of full-body imaging through clothing. it can be manufactured with standard semiconductor fabrication methods, and affords flexibility in location and routing of acquired images for examination. persons and packages can be vetted for closer scrutiny by additional methods without exposing security alert information to individuals being examined.
