At OWA we are introducing a new kind of haircare. Designed specifically for the modern day explorer, we've created products that you can take with you. Anywhere.
Starting with shampoo, we are bringing you high quality, sustainable, completely waterless products that are "Out of this World Amazing."
Meet Moondust, the shampoo that travels with you. Moondust is a shampoo for people who wash their hair at home or on-the-go that will provide a safe & sustainable option that is lightweight, affordable, effective, and completely waterless. Yes, we’re going waterless and we will be the first company to do so. Removing water doesn’t only save water in the bottle, but saves water through the entire product life cycle. Removing the water allows for OWA to ship a more concentrated product, which reduces the amount of plastic packaging used. Because OWA’s shampoo is so lightweight, we also save energy in the forms of electricity and fuel in the supply chain from start to finish.
"I've been dreaming about starting a sustainable cosmetic company since the age of 16, and have had so many ideas for the beauty industry throughout the years. There was something about the idea for this shampoo that I just couldn’t let it go.
Last year, while always on-the-go for work, I realized how inconvenient it is to travel with personal care products. I always had to run out at the last minute to buy a travel size product that I was ultimately unhappy with. In addition, I had to continually buy numerous travel size shampoos because they wouldn't last long enough. Then the shampoo would inevitably explode in my bag. I tried dry shampoo to extend time between washes, but the ones I preferred were in aerosols, which are not allowed for air travel and not great for the environment either (I am a green beauty buyer so I didn't like that aspect). I tried shampoo bars, which were full of sulfates and still left my hair feeling dirty. When I had the idea for Moondust, a dehydrated shampoo that would rehydrate with water to form a liquid shampoo, I felt like the time was now. Having an engineering background, I decided to start graduate school to learn more about business and how to launch a company. I started pitching the idea to everyone- friends, family, classmates, professors, advisors, random people at the grocery store. I received so much feedback and found people who actually wanted to purchase my product at that very moment. At this point I realized the idea was a huge opportunity and the opportunity became a business. Thus, OWA Haircare was born."
