Fly and Drive System

A transportation fly and drive system is composed by payload gondolas. Flying modules. Driving modules. Module exchange towers.

The payload gondolas are aerodynamically shaped enclosures having doors, windows, seats, and or cargo space, upper attachments for the flying modules, lower attachments for the driving modules. They are equipped with electric and fly&drive by wire controls and instruments.

The flying modules are multicopters having propulsion pods, each with one or two (in tandem configuration) electric motors, each driving a single blade or multibladed rotor. They are equipped with a battery and or fuel cell power pack, a control unity being capable of air travelling in autonomous programmable or fly by wire control modes. The driving modules are multi wheeled ground vehicles with electric or hybrid propulsion having central or inside wheels electric motors. They are equipped with a battery and or a fuel cell power pack, a control unity being capable of driving in road and cities in autonomous programmable or drive by wire control modes.

The module exchange towers are fixed elevated constructions having ground parking areas for the driving modules, elevated parking areas for the flying modules, and elevators units capable of to transport up and down full loaded pay load gondolas so that they can be attached either under flying modules or on driving modules. The exchange tower will minimize the flying modules noise, and air downwash ambient impacts and have the necessary height in order they could comply with the tower location allowed levels.

Hexacopter flying modules with 12 electric motors driving single bladed rotors (for lower parking footprint and better efficiency) which blades have elliptic dihedrals and tip winglets for lower weight (centrifugal force effects) and noise, and grouped in six pods skewly mounted on a central beam carrying the fly by wire system and the electric power packs.

A four-wheel driving module with a box chassis supporting suspension, drive by wire systems, electric power packs, and motors (that can be inside wheels).

The advantage of this system in comparison to the current use of helicopters and heliports is that there is no need to remove people and or merchandise from helicopters to load them in cars, vans, or trucks and vice versa.

The advantage in comparison to the so named ”flying cars” is that both vehicles in proposed system are much lighter and energy efficient since they fly or drive with only what is necessary for each mode. The negative side is the need of the fixed points and the infrastructure for changing modules, but that can be also used for battery charging and or fuel tank filling.

The use module changing tower proposal address to unify and solve problems of many current new designs of transport means that nowadays proliferate worldwide in special the sound and pollution ambient issues.
