Swirl AC can solve this future problem.

Swirl only uses water to provide cooling (and heating).

It does this using about 1/6 the power of chemical refrigerant AC.

Swirl can give 5.3kW of cooling using just 295W of electricity.

It can be mass produced at a lower price than existing AC.

So by all measures, cheaper to buy, a lot cheaper to run, and safer to use, it is the solution to the 0.3C expected global warming caused by increased use of AC.

How does Swirl work?

Water in a vacuum evaporates until the vacuum is filled with water vapour (steam), when just 2.17g of water evaporates that requires 5.3kJ of energy, so if we can evaporate every second 2.17g of water we have 5.3kW of cooling, evaporation causes cooling. Now if we evaporate water in vacuum we also need to condense water in vacuum, and we need to get rid of the 5.3kW of heat we are extracting from the living space. Swirl does this by taking about 90 litres of steam per second and compressing it up to a ratio of 2:1 so that it condenses, just as with evaporation but in reverse, condensation of 2.17g of water creates 5.3kJ of heating.

Swirl provides both an evaporation surface that cannot freeze at its surface, and a condensation surface that immediately carries heat away. The name Swirl comes from the fact that the evaporation surface is like a whirlpool, water returning from the room heat exchanger enters at the periphery and at an angle causing a swirling, water leaves the evaporator at the bottom of the pressure vessel. For condensation Swirl has water pumped from the reject heat exchanger cascading down a slope like lava down a volcano, the compressed steam condenses onto the surface of the flowing water and is swept back to the reject heat exchanger. So in both evaporation and condensation Swirl uses the most efficient means, a moving water surface.

Evaporating from the bottom chamber of Swirl, and condensing in the top chamber at a rate of a grams per second would eventually run the evaporator dry, the simple solution is that we have included a float ball such that when the condenser water level rises, it will lift the ball and drip water back to the evaporator.

The shells can be stamped like clamshells, the compressor mass produced for less than $20.

Swirl costs so little, but can make a World of difference, and do so for billions of people..

    Searching for real, viable and cost effective technologies that will help people live better lives, and with much lower environmental costs. I love the K.I.S.S approach, take a good idea and distill, and refine it, and do it again and again, until it is truly minimal and doable.

    Solutions to climate change that involve reverse cycle air conditioning (cooling and heating) will not be adopted unless they are affordable to all the people of the World. My invention is cheaper, safer and better, it is K.I.S.S, and it inspires me, so I hope it inspires others and that they will adopt this.

    It is estimated that air conditioning will contribute up to 0.5C of the global warming, I want Swirl AC to reduce that to as close to zero as possible. This need really inspired me.
