Methane Collector

If we are to stop burning fossil fuels by the middle of the century, the gas industry will need some other form of activity. It should be possible to collect some of the methane that is being given off by areas of permafrost that are now melting. At present this is going straight into the atmosphere.

This is difficult terrain, but by utilizing the naturally level area of a lake, will make construction easier. A small platform would need to be put in the middle of the lake, and then a circular concrete walkway made around the edge. Sections of plastic covering similar to an old-fashioned paper fan are then put in position and bolted together. Methane from several collectors is piped to a distribution point.

It would need to be fenced off to exclude wild animals, but once in position, should go on collecting for a long time.
