The danger of active shooters will never be removed from the mind of the public. This Dual Use patented technology is the first true Active Shooter Interdiction system and is the ultimate embodiment of defer, delay and deny of a shooter. With flexible designs to protect and fit many applications at building entrance points at ground level with single, double or even gang doors, glass storefronts, windows and even large open interior areas. This system will transform a vulnerable soft target into an impenetrable fortress creating a safe haven space or building until law enforcement arrives. This system can be installed needing only a designed framework infrastructure, a network connection and facility power (120vac). This system is novel in that USPTO granted a patent in 2021 (#11,125,537 B2). The core material described here that destroys projectiles is patented by another inventor. Use of this core material in this design is expressly permitted by that inventor.
Each engineered device is one third sheet metal, one third CNC machined aluminum components and one third ballistic screen materials which will require a waterjet or laser jet for cutting. Typical machine shop best practices prevail for manufacturing and assembly, and broad supply chain choices contribute to repeatability, production to scale and potential for exclusive (patented by others) center core material supplier is eminent.
The system uses an undefeatable (fire proof & cut proof and bullet proof) flexible ballistic screen stored on a roller inside a case above the ceiling, out of sight, out of mind, and is deployed automatically when needed and for as long as needed, then disappears into the ceiling ready to deployed again. The device/system is code friendly with ease of maintenance and is the basis for a national level program with enormous sales and deployment potential. A document package has been submitted to DHS for Safety Act certification for early insight into this technology.
Alternate installations can be across a hallway, completely blocking the hallway when deployed, interrupting the shooter's line of sight, preventing further breach deeper into the building. Additionally, separating the innocent from danger allowing them to escape to safety, and most importantly, stopping (and destroying) all projectiles that strike the ballistic screen. Interdiction devices can integrate and communicate with any existing activation system or method or external system (like CCTV with weapons detection analytics, hardwired button, serial or http communications). The optimum application of this technology/protection are designs that cover all exterior entry points at ground level. All devices can be activated simultaneously, or deploy independently.
Centerpiece of this design is the flexible multilayered ballistic screen with a core layer based on the next generation of body armor. Since it is flexible, it can be rolled up, stored, then deployed when needed. Designed for K-12 Schools, Base Defense, Consulates, Embassies, Transportation hubs, banking and money counting facilities, critical infrastructure, nuclear power plants, airports, pharmaceutical, courthouses, office buildings and many many more civilian and federal/military applications.
