Most modern cars are designed on dual-fuel concept such as CNG and Petrol (Gasoline) or battery and Petrol. It is observed that most of the cities in the world, particularly in the crowded cities of India, average speed of a car varies ranging from 10 km/h to 20 km/h in congested city centers and much less up to 5 km/h during traffic jam and in the Ghats region. But in such situations drivers cannot switch off the engine due to slow moving traffic. They have to keep moving at extremely slow speed resulting in unnecessary burning of fuel, adding more carbon particles into the air making air pollution. In such high traffic jam situation it is necessary to save the valuable fuel and at the same time vehicle is require to move slowly.
To handle these on-road conditions we propose a car design with a change-over switch (fuel selector) which can be switch to gasoline fuel (G) when a car running at a normal speed and when car got stuck in traffic or moving at slow speed, Fuel selector switch can be switch to Solar power (S) and allows drivers to toggle seamlessly between fuel types. This Switch at “S” keeps moving the car on solar power fitted on roof of the car and even on bonnet. Since the power generated through solar energy is not that much strong as fuel, but it is sufficient to move the car slowly by saving the gasoline. When traffic gets clear and road is open, turn the switch toward Fuel (G) to run the car at its normal speed. This concept is shown in the images. Instead of car batteries (charging is another issue), If future car designed to run on solar power and gasoline as mentioned above, lots of fuel can be saved and at the same time this system help in reducing air pollution as well. The concept may also be applicable to EV cars with solar power to consume less battery and increase battery life.
