LactiQ Intel is a lightweight, non-invasive biosensing platform designed to improve health and reproductive monitoring in dairy cattle through continuous direct-skin physiological sensing.

Current livestock monitoring systems primarily rely on neck collars, ear tags, pedometers, cameras, or bolus devices. While these technologies can measure activity or behavioral changes, they often lack direct physiological sensing capabilities, provide limited temperature accuracy, require expensive infrastructure, or monitor only a single aspect of animal health.

LactiQ Intel introduces a novel adhesive biosensor architecture that maintains continuous contact with the animal's skin surface. Unlike conventional ear tags, which are separated from the skin by the tag structure itself, LactiQ's sensing surface is positioned directly against the cow's body, enabling more accurate physiological measurements and improved signal quality.

The system combines multiple sensing modalities within a single lightweight wearable platform. Depending on configuration, the device can continuously monitor surface temperature, activity patterns, blood-flow-related physiological signals, rumination-associated movement, and behavioral changes linked to reproduction and health events. Advanced algorithms analyze these data streams to identify estrus, predict calving events, monitor recovery during the transition period, and detect early indicators of metabolic and health disorders.

A key innovation is the device placement strategy. The biosensor is positioned at a location that provides stable skin contact while minimizing interference from daily farm activities. This placement enables continuous physiological monitoring without requiring invasive procedures or large, heavy wearable systems. The low-profile design improves animal comfort while reducing the risk of damage or loss compared with conventional livestock wearables.

The device consists of a disposable adhesive sensing patch paired with a small reusable electronics module containing wireless communication, power management, and onboard processing capabilities. Data can be transmitted to farm management software where alerts and actionable insights are generated for farm personnel.

The design is intended to be manufactured using scalable electronics assembly processes and low-cost sensor components, enabling deployment at significantly lower cost than many existing livestock monitoring systems. This makes advanced monitoring more accessible to mid-sized and smaller dairy operations that may not be able to justify the cost of current premium monitoring technologies.

Potential applications include dairy health monitoring, estrus detection, calving prediction, transition cow management, welfare monitoring, and precision livestock farming.
