As global electrification accelerates, the lack of rapid battery diagnostics remains a multi-billion-dollar bottleneck. Standard battery health testing relies on energy-intensive, 6-to-24-hour charge/discharge cycling. ReJoule’s BattScan solves this by bringing laboratory-grade Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) out of the lab and into high-voltage field operations, delivering a highly precise State-of-Health (SOH) grade (>98% accuracy) in under 10 minutes.
How It Works: Our BattScan hardware uses advanced power electronics to inject low-amplitude excitation currents over a wide frequency spectrum directly into high-voltage battery packs or through an EV’s standard DC fast-charging port. The hardware captures the resulting ultra-low voltage response at high resolution. This raw physical impedance data is automatically uploaded to a cloud-based platform BatteryDB, where physical-based and machine-learning models interpret the battery’s spectral response. The system delivers a comprehensive diagnostic SOH report and pinpoint-degradation mapping without requiring physical disassembly.
What’s Unique? Laboratory EIS has traditionally been limited to bench-scale research on single low-voltage cells. In a major commercial trial with logistics partner Renewance, a single portable BattScan device allowed non-certified technicians to screen and sort 1,670 retired modules in three months (yielding 2 MWh of viable second-life battery supply)—a sorting process that would have taken over a year using legacy cycling equipment.
Use Cases: Practical applications span across both the automotive and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) sectors. In the automotive industry, the technology empowers dealerships to instantly grade electric vehicle (EV) batteries at trade-in, while allowing recyclers and dismantlers to quickly verify and qualify incoming feedstock. For BESS, it assists grid developers and asset managers in safely validating second-life battery packs. Crucially, this technology applies to BESS facilities utilizing brand new batteries for critical Operations and Maintenance (O&M) use cases, ensuring baseline health performance and ongoing warranty compliance. By transforming a risky, unobservable "black box" into a transparent, bankable asset across both ecosystems, ReJoule provides the essential data infrastructure required to scale global electrification safely and predictably.
