Electronics

This device is designed to help deter sharks from approaching a person at the beach. It works by disrupting a shark’s electroreceptors, creating discomfort that encourages the shark to turn away.

The core concept uses two systems:

  • Electrical field: the primary deterrent mechanism.

  • Light: a camouflage layer that makes the wearer appear less target-like to sharks.

The aim is to create a protective field in the water without shocking the user. Safety features will support reliable and practical use.

  • Fully waterproof electronics with epoxy sealing.

  • Electrical isolation from the body.

  • No exposed wiring in contact with the skin.

  • Current-limiting resistors and protection circuitry.

The light module provides camouflage by helping to:

  • Reduce the dark silhouette sharks may use to identify prey.

  • Help the wearer blend visually when viewed from below.

  • Rely on brightness rather than colour, since sharks are largely colour-blind.

  • Use white, blue, or green LEDs for availability and efficiency.

To reduce interference or instability, the system will use separate controls for:

  • The LED circuit.

  • The pulse generator.

When the device is switched on, smart integration will activate:

  • LEDs with a constant glow.

  • Electric pulses indicate that the unit is active.

One anklet will be worn on each ankle to create a wider electrical field while the lights help break up the wearer’s silhouette. The unit will also include adjustable pulses to control frequency and power modes.

Each anklet will operate independently, with:

  • Its own battery.

  • Its own pulse generator.

  • Its own electrode.

  • A simpler build process.

  • No wiring between the legs.

If one anklet fails, the other can continue operating, maintaining a level of protection.
