Sun’s new cartridge-style flow meter QMEH delivers precise, real-time flow measurements for demanding hydraulic applications. Using a custom-built, state-of-the-art sensor, the QMEH accurately detects flow and converts the electrical signal into a proportional flow rate. Designed for high performance and durability, the QMEH fits Sun’s industry common T-16A cavity and is available in multiple flow ranges, supporting operating pressures up to 5,000 psi (350 bar). This valve serves as a variable area, cartridge-style flow meter. It measures flow from Port 1 to Port 2 and outputs an electrical signal proportional to the flow rate detected.

Performance was validated using a fluid having a viscosity of 24 cSt. As the viscosity increases past 50 cSt, the maximum capacity begins to decrease. When it reaches 200 cSt a 12.5% decrease in capacity was observed. Flow at fluid viscosities higher than 200 cSt cannot be reliably measured with this flow meter.

All ports are rated to 5000 psi (350 bar) maximum operating pressure. The valve is insensitive to backpressure up to the rated pressure.

When powered and there is no flow, the resting output of the sensor is 0.5V/4mA and increases to 4.5V/20mA as the flow increases, up to the upper limit of the flow range. Flow rates above the upper limit of the flow range will not cause the signal output to go higher than 4.5 v/20mA. Therefore, flows higher than the published range cannot be measured and will output the maximum of either 4.5 v/20mA.

The performance of the 50 gpm and 35 gpm versions is sensitive to the size of the port hit diameter at Port 2. Optimal performance is achieved with a port hit diameter larger than 1 inch. Some recommended three-letter bodies are IA* with a port size designation larger than 1 inch (SAE 16).
