INNATE™ ML Precision Packaging Resin is a novel polyethylene-based materials technology designed to fundamentally improve tear-propagation resistance in multilayer films. Unlike conventional film designs, which rely on balancing the intrinsic properties of individual resins and therefore inevitably compromise between critical performances such as tear, puncture, stiffness, and stretchability, INNATE™ ML opens a new design space: a functional layer that works synergistically with adjacent polyethylene layers to deliver performance beyond the sum of the individual materials.
This innovation combines two breakthroughs. First, INNATE™ ML Precision Packaging Resin is based on a newly designed molecular polyethylene architecture designed to act within multilayer structures. Second, its value is made possible by a carefully optimized multilayer film design, where the position and combination of adjacent layers are critical. INNATE™ ML does not simply contribute additively to the overall performance; rather, enables a different mechanism of tear propagation and dramatically slows tear growth after damage initiation. This architecture-driven mechanism creates a step-change in tear resistance while preserving or enhancing other critical properties such as puncture resistance, stretchability, stiffness, and processability.
This technology is produced using existing industrial polyethylene manufacturing plants, and used in multilayer film extrusion lines, making it highly feasible for commercial implementation. It has already been demonstrated at full industrial scale with leading machine manufacturers and customers in both cast and blown film processes. Importantly, it leverages multilayer extrusion capabilities which are increasingly available, and already being adopted for high-performance films.
INNATE™ ML Precision Packaging Resin provides solutions in applications where tear resistance is a key attribute and where sustainability is needed. In machine stretch wrap, it enables fully polyethylene, mechanically recyclable film structures that can replace incumbent PE/PP combinations while maintaining or exceeding high-pre-stretch tear performance. It also enables incorporation of post-consumer recycled (PCR) content while maintaining tear resistance and stretch consistency. In agricultural films such as silage bale wrap and silo bags, INNATE™ ML enables up to 20% downgauging while maintaining or exceeding incumbent performance in tear, impact, and durability under demanding outdoor conditions.
The novelty of INNATE™ ML Precision Packaging Resin lies not only in the resin itself, but in the science of how it functions inside a multilayer structure to expand the design space for polyethylene films. This represents a significant advance over the current state of the art, which has historically depended either on material compromises or on multi-material solutions. By enabling mono-material PE structures with high performance, downgauging potential, and PCR compatibility, INNATE™ ML addresses critical market needs across packaging and agricultural sectors while supporting circularity and reduced carbon footprint. It is a commercially demonstrated, scalable innovation with clear applicability in large, established global markets.
