UmbiliSeal is a sterile adhesive patch designed to help detect and reduce air leakage around the umbilical port during laparoscopic and robotic surgery.

Loss of pneumoperitoneum due to small periumbilical leaks is a common but often underrecognized problem, especially during ventral hernia repair, abdominal wall reconstruction, and other procedures requiring prolonged stable insufflation. Even minor gas leakage can reduce working space, affect visualization, impair robotic efficiency, and interrupt surgical flow.

UmbiliSeal is placed around the umbilical trocar site after port insertion. The patch creates an additional sealing layer between the trocar and surrounding skin while incorporating a simple visual leak indicator. When gas escapes around the port, the indicator reacts through visible expansion, movement, or color change, alerting the surgical team to a possible loss of insufflation.

This allows earlier recognition of leaks that may otherwise go unnoticed until significant pressure loss occurs. Prompt detection can help reduce repeated troubleshooting, unnecessary insufflator adjustments, and interruptions during critical operative steps.

The device is intended to be simple, low-cost, disposable, and easy to integrate into existing surgical workflow without requiring electronic components or changes to current trocar systems.

UmbiliSeal may be particularly useful in robotic surgery, complex hernia repair, and abdominal wall reconstruction procedures where maintaining stable pneumoperitoneum is essential for optimal exposure and operative efficiency.
