High Performance Shutter Valve

The Shutter Valve is a quarter turn, compact and fully piggable high performance valve that is based on a simple interlocking three petal design. This design gives it the ability to seal at very high pressures just like any other high performance valve. Unlike other high performance valves, it has a compact design that can be disassembled by a trained technician for field maintenance or repairs.

The valve is designed to work with all standard size flanges and pipes. Users can maintain the same standard face to face dimensions of their existing valves (‘plug-and-play’).
Among the Shutter Valve’s several features, it boasts precision flow control. With its design based on a mechanical iris, the Shutter Valve controls flow by moving the petals into any position needed. Flow can be restricted from a fine mist all the way to a full stream like a fire hose, and everything in between.

At full open, the Shutter Valve has 0% pressure drop (P1=P2) and because there is no obstruction in the flow path when open, cavitation, noise, water hammer, wear and tear are lowered. The flow characteristics of the Shutter Valve are ideal for control valve applications due to the precision aperture control capability.

Very little noise is generated from the valve in partial open positions because the valve has very low cavitation. Low noise provides a safety benefit for anyone who works in facilities as well as improving valve and pipe life by reducing vibration.
Another advantage of the Shutter Valve is that because the petals open and close perpendicularly to the flow, instead of against the flow, the amount of torque required to open and close the valve is extremely low.

This means that the valve requires a smaller actuator to operate it (example: the 1” requires 70 in/lbs of torque, the 4” requires less than 200 in/lbs of torque).
In regard to certification testing, the Shutter Valve continues to pass all tests with flying colours. It has been tested for pressures up to 500 PSI and holds industry certifications in: ANSI, API, AWWA and 3A.

The Shutter Valve has also achieved the highest certification possible, Class 6 bubble tight shut off.

Class 6 bubble tight shut off means that the Shutter Valve has zero leakage at operating pressure. This is the first time in history that the combination of precision flow control, zero pressure drop and bubble tight shut off has been combined into one valve.

The versatility of the Shutter Valve is another strong point. Applications for the valve are nearly endless as it can be used in everything from water, high pressure air, oil, refrigerant, food processing, automotive exhaust, slurry and more.
All Shutter Valves are designed and manufactured in the US.

The Shutter Valve provides unobstructed flow, piggability and sealing capability of a ball valve with the precise flow control of a control valve and compact size of the butterfly valve. Combined, these features provide you with the highest performing valve on the market today.
