The medical sector is one of the markets where there may be more products with a high environmental impact. The exclusive use of elements for a single patient, disinfection that is more costly than production, legislation, etc., lead to the generation of products that will become waste in a short period of time.

IFRI is a product that focuses on solving a common deficiency in radial and femoral vascular interventions, combined with the generation of a device developed with its own methodology for eco-design and sustainability, always solving the need demanded by the sector for a product that improves angiographic interventions and other similar ones.

The device is made up of two non-connected elements that work at the same time, called; Arm Support, which are arranged in the same plane as the angiographic equipment stretcher, and can be adjusted in rotation and inclination and used by the patient and Auxiliary Table with 3 levels of height and is used by the surgeon.

Currently, in the vast majority of cases, the patient's arm is at the same height as the angiographic table (the machine on which cardiac operations are performed), in the best of cases with a wooden or plastic board, which gives better support, but the surgeon continues to operate with his hands in the air, or sometimes, he leans on the patient himself.

The two elements of the system have to be placed under the angiographic table mat, on which the patient stands and with his or her weight fixes the relative position of the device in relation to the angiograph. The weight shall be sufficient to prevent possible displacement of the equipment, since parts of the components are designed to cover an adequate area so that, with the patient, it is impossible for the elements to fall or be accidentally removed.

The product has been designed to be manufactured in the most coherent way with its use, environment and layout. As it is not a high production product, it was defined to be manufactured with small serial processes, without large investments in moulds and tooling or materials. The main material (Krion) is antibacterial, with numerous environmental certifications, resistant of high quality, repairable, which even allows the product to be updated and improved in the future without the need to manufacture it in its entirety, thus reducing the environmental impact in production and waste generation. The parts that make up the mechanisms are printed in recyclable polyamide by 3D printing (SLS), and the rest are elements from the market. All this allows for short production runs on demand.

IFRI is an eco-designed product, so it has been focused so that it behaves in the most appropriate way in each phase of its life cycle. Its type of production makes it more accessible to medical centres, in terms of price, than other alternatives, in addition to the fact that its ergonomic study improves interventions on the cardiac system, making them faster and safer.
