Individual soldier defense against last-minute drone attacks is now essential on the modern battlefield. Drones are causing a sharp rise in casualties, especially in the Russia-Ukraine war. UN data shows Ukrainian civilian deaths from drone and missile strikes have increased by nearly 50% in early 2025. With over 400,000 Ukrainian and 790,000 Russian military casualties reported, the ability to defend against drones can mean survival.

Based on the “Rock, Paper, and Scissors” game theory, the Puffer Defense system is designed to neutralize drone threats by employing a straightforward yet highly effective countermeasure that disrupts the success rate of drone attacks.

The device deploys X projectiles that expand into web-like barriers, providing robust midair defense against drones, entrenched adversaries, or direct assaults in a variety of combat scenarios. Drawing inspiration from the precision of spearfishing, the simplicity of Roman slingshots, and the effectiveness of stunning technologies, the device is engineered for both accuracy and ease of use.

The system comprises two main components: the launching tube and the projectile. Each projectile incorporates “puffing burst technology” with three entrapment elements capable of intercepting drones, neutralizing individual threats, or reaching enemies in concealed positions. Upon deployment, these elements expand to create a five-foot radius of protection in air, effectively halting drone incursions or entrapping hostile individuals. The lightweight design accommodates X projectiles, and the launching tube—measuring X in size—can be mounted on standard military rifles or carried independently by personnel.

The Puffer Defense system is cost-effective, easily manufactured, and can be tested for operational effectiveness, with readiness for market trials within three months. This innovative solution leverages current technologies, reconfigured to address emerging threats in modern combat environments.
