IVOSS (In-Vehicle Occupant Security System) is an intelligent, network-enabled video surveillance system designed to enhance vehicle security and protect its occupants. It combines real-time video capture, edge computing, secure data storage, and connectivity to a central monitoring centre, making it suitable for both private and commercial vehicle applications. Whether the vehicle is in motion or parked, IVOSS offers proactive monitoring, alerts, and response coordination to ensure continuous safety.

System Components:

The IVOSS system is built with a range of interconnected technologies:

  • Network Camera: A high-definition camera, often installed on the dashboard or around the vehicle, with a wide-angle (180°) lens for comprehensive interior monitoring.

  • Video Encoder: Converts captured footage into digital IP format for streaming and analysis.

  • Onboard Storage: Local memory (SD card or internal drive) stores recorded footage when cloud connection is unavailable or when the system is inactive.

  • Gateway Module: Connects to edge/fog computing infrastructure and manages data transfer to cloud services and control centres.

  • Control Centre Interface: Receives live feeds, detects potential threats, and initiates emergency protocols if needed.

  • User Dashboard: An in-vehicle screen or mobile app that allows users to control settings, enter codes, and manage privacy options.

Functionality & Features:

IVOSS serves multiple safety and monitoring functions:

  • Provides real-time video surveillance of the vehicle’s interior.

  • Streams footage securely to a control centre for live monitoring and incident response.

  • Allows users to activate or deactivate monitoring using a security code.

  • Sends alerts if tampering, forced entry, or suspicious behaviour is detected.

  • Offers secure video sharing with approved contacts (e.g., family or friends) via a companion app.

  • Includes privacy settings for temporary streaming deactivation on request.

How It Works:

  1. Activation: The system automatically powers on when the engine starts. Video recording begins immediately but remains local unless the system is fully activated.

  2. User Input: The user is prompted to enter a code. If skipped or entered incorrectly, monitoring and streaming begin after a short delay.

  3. Data Handling: Live footage is streamed to the control centre. Non-critical data is sent to the cloud for analytics and storage.

  4. Security Response: If tampering is detected, an alarm sounds and the control centre is alerted instantly.

Applications:

  • Personal Use: Enhances safety for daily drivers and solo commuters.

  • Commercial Fleets: Ideal for taxis, ride-sharing, and delivery services.

  • Parental Oversight: Allows parents to supervise young drivers in real-time.

Production Plan:

  1. R&D: Design system architecture, develop prototypes, and test user experience.

  2. Hardware Manufacturing: Partner with OEMs for cameras and rugged components suitable for vehicles.

  3. Software Development: Build firmware, a secure operating system, and a user-friendly dashboard app.

  4. Networking: Integrate 4G/5G or Wi-Fi modules and develop secure APIs.

  5. Security Compliance: Implement encryption, user authentication, and privacy protection features.

  6. Pilot Testing: Deploy test units in various conditions and environments to refine the system.

  7. Scaling Up: Launch full-scale production with distribution and subscription-based services.
