NEED. Today about 5 billions people (or 70% of the world's population) live without centralized water supply. According to statistics, in developing countries thousands children die daily due to diseases, which are associated with poor hygiene. One of some negative factors is the problem with hands washing. Besides, from time to time natural disasters happen, and even in developed countries arises the same problem with hygiene and sanitation, and in particular - with washing hands. Therefore, there is a huge need for a simple, convenient and inexpensive device for washing hands.

HUMANITARIAN SIDE OF PROJECT. The proposed device could be a humanitarian aid for many millions of people. It would be the materialized opportunity of create, test, replicate, and encourage people to wash their hands - as it was proclaimed by Global Handwashing Day initiative.

DESCRIPTION. The device for washing hands consists of two parts - a base shell for water and small vessel (measuring cup - dispenser), that measures and gives out a portion of water. In working order, both parts are tightly connected to each other.

WORKING PHASE. When the rod is moved to the upper position, water quickly fills the measuring cup. When the rod is released, it returns to the lower position, and a portion of water from the dispenser flows slowly onto the hands.

PROTOTYPE. Such a hand washer device is well-known in Russia more then 150 years. It is very demanded device in country side without centralized water supply. Its traditional name is rukomòynik, i.e. hand washer.

DESCRIPTION PROTOTYPE, IT’S ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES. The advantages of a traditional hand washer are simplicity and cheapness. The disadvantage is that the water from the base shell flows only when the hand moves the rod upwards. At this time it is difficult to wash hands thoroughly. But when the rod is lowered and the hands are free, the water immediately stops flowing. Inconsistency of processes - washing hands and water flows - leads to excessive water consumption.

NOVELTY. In the proposed device, the disadvantage was eliminated by the measuring cup - dispenser usage. The novelty of the idea is confirmed by the Russian Federation patent for utility model RU 150018 (2015).

REAL LIFE TEST. One of the variants of hand washer (this variant can be considered as a preliminary material model of the proposed device) with a measuring cup - dispenser was made from easy accessible materials, and it was used for more than 10 years in a rural area house without centralized water supply. For washing hands, the water consuming was about at two time less than if using a traditional hand washer.

PRODUCTION. Production technology - widely used plastic molding from easily accessible plastic.
