Variable Volute Turbine

The VVT is a completely new, patented way of controlling turbine flow. It features a 720° volute that can be unwound by a flexible link system to 360°. The efficiency is stellar—beyond what any multi-vane VGT can do.
Conventional multi-vane VGT’s turn into impulse turbines when the vanes start to close and there goes the efficiency. About the best efficiency an impulse turbine can produce is about 50%, whereas reaction turbines can be as high as 90%. Furthermore, there are no vanes to:
· cause HCF failure of the turbine wheel,
· create siren noise,
· vibrate and wear,
· flutter and reverse the aero-torque,
· no wear to cause calibration error with the ECU,
· no vanes to convert pressure to velocity and spoil the efficiency.
