The innovation solves the problem of massive demolition, earthmoving, and drilling without using explosives or explosive propellants. The innovation utilizes a linear motor device and projectile (such as a railgun) to create tunnels and shafts, break rock, and move soil. The firing solution is an input of geotechnical engineering data, and the design location/length of penetration. A plurality of bits can be used for various soils and drilling operations. The system is moveable to the site where it is required.

The claimed innovation differs from what currently exists. The linear projectile allows the launcher to be positioned away from the point of impact; on the ground, in the water, or the sky/orbit. The system uses geotechnical engineering to determine the power required to penetrate, and locates the fired projectile using a distance measure (such as a line-of-sight laser). It is conceptualized for instances where explosive force is necessary or in areas that cannot fit pile driving and drilling equipment. No drill casing is required for the projectile. A relationship between muzzle velocity of the bit leaving the linear motor and the depth of the bit’s cut into the geologic strata is d

This system provides tremendous percussive force from a distance analogous with conventional explosives, and the linear motor device can be remote from the impact point (i.e., orbiting overhead, or several miles away at ground level).

A plurality of projectile bits that can be made and patented. Other direct energy devices can be modified to substitute the linear motor device. The control computer can be modified and innovated for a plurality of energy and explosive-based civil/geoengineering systems.

The Version of The Innovation Discussed Here Includes:

  1. Linear Motor Device
  2. Linear Motor Control Computer
  3. Projectile Bit
  4. Distance Measure
  5. Platform

Relationship Between The Components:

The projectile bit (3) is the impacting component against structures, rock and soil, providing the percussive force. It is fired with the linear motor device (1). The linear motor control computer (2) is used by the operator to input parameters such as rock and soil data (geotechnics) and the engineering design (depth of the impact/tunnel/shaft, etc.). The system must be mounted to a platform (5) such as a satellite, drone, railroad car, truck trailer etc. so that it can be positioned to face the impacting point (designated ground zero). A distance measure (4) is used to locate the impacting point, deformation at the impacting point, and the fired projectile, providing precise coordinates.

It can also be utilized for terraforming other planets (planetary engineering) by releasing clouds of dust and trapped gas and water pockets. Secondary effects such as this may give way to another primary application of the technology for releasing gas deposits.
