Design and Development of a 1.5kVA Dynamic Fuelless Generator (DFLG)

The fuelless generator just as the name implies is a power generating system that doesn’t require any kind of fuel for its operation. The fuelless generator technology has been in existence for some time now but there hasn’t been known large scale application of this technology. However, the purpose of this project is to determine the efficiency and applicability of this technology using a Brushless Direct Current Motor type.

The materials to be used for the project work includes a Brushless Direct Current Motor, an Alternator, Couplings, Fly-wheel, 12V/75AH Battery, Charging Panel, Rectifying/Inverting circuit(AC-to-DC), Automatic Voltage Regulator, frame and other accessories.

Method of construction involved will first include statistical analysis in determining the rating and sizes of Motors, Rectifiers, Cables, Flywheels, Torque and Speed of both the motors and alternator.

Firstly, the DC motor will be coupled to the flywheel which has been coupled to the shaft of the alternator both sitting on a padded base to reduce vibration effects in the system. The 12V battery will be used to run the DC motor for start-up and when it reaches a steady speed using a tachometer to measure the speed. As the motor rotates, it also causes the alternator to rotate which also generates an AC power at its output.

However, the battery will only be used to initialize the electric power generation process. Then the output from the alternator will have two pairs of output terminals; One to power the DC Motor Controller and the other to the Loads.

In conclusion, readings will be taken during operational time for evaluation. Parameters such as temperature, Input Voltage, Input Current, Output Voltage , Output Current, DC Motor Speed, Alternator Speed and Flywheel Speed. These parameters will be measured during Open Circuit Test and Close Circuit Test. A Variable Load will be used ranging from zero to maximum wattage.

This FLG will use a BLDC Motor and can be smartened so the speed control of the motor acts automatically like a conventional generator governor.

After construction and field testing, this can be used as mobile power supply systems. Also in remote locations in developing countries in Africa and Asia, it can be used to increase the access to clean and reliable energy.
