PROJECT OVERVIEW:

Electricity thefts are increasing every year across domestic as well as industrial domains which affect the economic status of the country. Various wireless communication systems are available to detect the power theft, but lack the required infrastructure needed to employ them. The project’s aim is to design a system to monitor the power consumed by load and to detect and eliminate the power theft in transmission lines and energy meters. This work is also focused on communicating the theft information to the Electricity Board (EB) through IoT. As a network of devices is connected like sensors it has the ability to exchange real time information through the internet. In this project Raspberry Pi is utilized to detect power theft and send commands to the GSM module which sends the theft information message to EB. The implementation of this system will help save large amounts of electricity.

IMPACT:

Implementing this system is expected to significantly reduce electricity theft, thereby conserving resources and improving the reliability of electricity distribution.

METHODOLOGY:

The system operates with Raspberry Pi as the central controller, monitoring load current and voltage from consumers for analysis. It compares consumed and transmitted loads; any discrepancy triggers the Pi to signal the next step. The GSM module immediately alerts the Electricity Board about the detected theft. Subsequently, a thorough analysis identifies the specific point of power mismatch by cross-referencing stored data. Upon pinpointing the mismatched point, the system activates circuit breakers to halt supply, preventing further unauthorized hooking. This systematic approach integrates data collection, analysis, instant notification, pinpointing theft locations, and supply interruption to swiftly and effectively combat power theft. Without any human interface this system will provide an effective and easy way to find the electricity theft It will identify the peak mismatch and unexpected mismatch and make its further move Without any human interface this system will provide an effective and easy way to find the electricity theft It will identify the peak mismatch and unexpected mismatch and make its further move.

ADVANTAGES

  • Cost Savings: By reducing electricity theft, utility companies save significant costs associated with lost revenue from unauthorized consumption.
  • Improved Service Reliability: Minimizing theft helps stabilize the electricity grid, reducing outages and improving service reliability for all consumers.
  • Fairness and Equity: Ensures fair distribution of electricity resources, benefiting legitimate consumers and businesses who pay for their usage.
  • Supports Economic Development: Stable and reliable electricity supply supports economic growth by attracting investments and facilitating business operations.
  • Environmental Impact: Promotes sustainable energy practices by reducing wastage and supporting efforts to lower carbon emissions associated with electricity generation.

In conclusion, the project utilizes Raspberry Pi and IoT technologies to create a robust system for monitoring and combating electricity theft. By leveraging real-time data analysis and automated alert systems, it enhances the efficiency of theft detection and prevention measures. Ultimately, the implementation of this system aims to safeguard electricity resources and support sustainable energy practices.
