Since the dawn of time mankind has strived to keep “the fire going” to store energy! Energy storage is the key to species advancement.

All evolved organisms have learned to do this very well, and the evolution of the species itself as a working one is the key to our advancement and deep exploration of the universe.
It is now possible to turn the skin of our very machines into storage batteries, using layers of paint.

Technique could turn any surface into a lithium-ion battery; may be combined with solar cells

Researchers at Rice University have developed a lithium-ion battery that can be painted on virtually any surface. The rechargeable battery created in the lab of Rice materials scientist Pulickel Ajayan consists of spray-painted layers, each representing the components in a traditional battery. The research appears in Nature’s online, open-access journal Scientific Reports.”

“This means traditional packaging for batteries has given way to a much more flexible approach that allows all kinds of new design and integration possibilities for storage devices,” said Ajayan, Rice’s Benjamin M. and Mary Greenwood Anderson Professor in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science and of chemistry. “There has been lot of interest in recent times in creating power sources with an improved form factor, and this is a big step forward in that direction.”

Imagine taking a skyscraper and on its east and west sides adding photovoltaic cells and then storing that energy with a painting process right on the north and south sides of the building. This could be done with old or new construction.

Imagine storing the electrical charge for our electric and hybrid autos and buses and trains and planes right on them with this paint.

Imagine the next generation space stations would be able to generate solar energy and store it on the very skin of the structure with this paint.

Imagine the astronaut being able to wear his battery pack right on the skin of his suit.

Imagine even on the dark side of the Earth the lowering of electrodes into the ionosphere harnessing the electromagnetic flow of the Earth and charge the paint applied to the space structure.

Imagine a Holiday Inn on the moon. The entire structure could be painted with this paint.

Scientists have doubled the power output of a 'bacteria battery' by selecting microbes from a UK river estuary, including one normally found in space. Imagine a deep space probe farther from the sun being be able to use some of the viruses and bacteria process for generating energy incorporated directly into the paint to generate and store energy much like a living organism.
