.BECAUSE, WE NEED THE GEAR TO EXPAND UNDER STRESS, NOT, SHRINK....SO,...LIKE YOUR FINGERS...AS THE CENTER GETS SMALLER...THE OUTSIDE...OR SIDES...THE BASE KNUCKLES...WOULD GET LARGER.
