The objective of this project is to understand, manipulate and enhance the dexterity of a robotic hand, and its controlling by various methods (in our case, a potentiometer fitted Exoskeleton Glove).

Our project may be a useful alternative for people who have lost their arm. The output from their sensory nerves may be tapped, amplified and fed as control signals to the robotic arm. This project is the first step to manufacture cheap prosthetics for the needy.

The project is also applicable in fields of manual scavenging of radioactive materials, where the human hand cannot sustain radiation, but a robotic arm may be helpful.

The project implementation is subdivided into the main tasks, as follows..

RESEARCH: - Understanding of working of a human hand, muscle movements, skeletal supports, strength quotients, pivots, angles etc.

DEVELOPMENT: - Designing of frame that fulfills almost all motions, degrees of freedoms, and can imitate the human hand to its fullest achievable extent. Also, finding compatible software and its development, to get the desired output.

PLANNING: - The project, though simple, may become very complicated if proper planning is not done. Planning includes managing of Resource, Time and Money, and at the same time, coordination among the team members.

Elementary mechanics and Communication techniques are used in the system. As a tele-operation system, its ultimate utility depends on the ease with which the interface can be used. Other interfaces present new challenges.

Several factors have made the project daunting, particularly the complexity of calibration, the differing kinematic capabilities of a robot and a human hand.

The unavailability of funds and resources have always been a limitation for any Indian team, which is a major reason that a project cannot display its capabilities at its fullest extent. But, keeping in mind the above limitations, the project earns a very precious tag of being “LOW COST,” which may be a boon for the developing countries.

CONCLUSION
In the view of increasing technological developments, the advancement in prosthetic limbs has been very significant. The need for these prosthetic limbs in the real world is a very large number. The need for good and economical equipment is the need of the hour. In order to understand the problems, resolve potential issues, add-on and thereby, contribute to this field , this project has been taken up and estimated to be successfully completed within the given timeframe, overcoming the challenges that will be faced by the team.
