With the wide area of research in the automobile sector, it has been observed that there are various transmissional losses in the vehicles, which can be reduced. These losses may occur due to breaking or clutch effect in the vehicle. When the breaks & clutch are applied, the engine still continues to work & the power produced due to combustion is completely lost in transmission.
This may be reduced by the concept of Hybrid Vehicles. As these are the vehicles which use two or more distinct power sources. This combines one IC engine, one generator and one motor (two electric machines). But here in new idea we are using only one electrical machine with IC engine so it is now Mono Unit Hybrid Drive (MUHD). The battery is recharged during driving, from both 1)while clutching when the fuel burning in the internal combustion engine and 2)during braking when the kinetic energy that is recaptured. As a result, this hybrid vehicles gives both the options to charge the battery plugged in to an electrical outlet to recharge the batteries.
Regardless of the way the system is designed, the result in each case is that the electric motor provides all the power necessary to propel the vehicle. As a result, a smaller combustion engine can be used, providing better gas mileage and reduced greenhouse gas emissions. The fuel economy improvement is the result of taking the best parts of the gasoline engine and the electric motor and combining them into one package. A vehicle powered with only by electric motor may be undesirable because of its limited driving range and lengthy recharging time.
The average fuel economy that hybrid owners experience can vary quite widely, as it depends largely on driving style, traffic condition and the mix of city and highway travel. MUHD also use regenerative braking to further improve fuel economy. In regenerative braking, the electric motor becomes a generator and captures the kinetic energy that would be lost as heat when the vehicle's brakes are applied or when the vehicle is coasting. Once the energy is captured, it is transformed into electricity, which recharges the batteries. The energy can also be stored and used to power electrical accessories, like air conditioning. This is why city fuel economy is even greater than highway fuel economy in normal hybrids. But in MUHD it is possible to get output as max as possible in both case, highway or city.
The advantages of MUHD can be defined as
1) Better fuel economy then conventional vehicles.
2) Less cost and weight of hybridization compared to conventional hybrid.
3) Easy and smooth drive as clutch can be controlled by microcontroller.
4) Short range (for city) and emergency fuel backup(for high way) as battery.
5) Less carbon emission so more eco friendly
Also we can have all other advantage that can be provided by a normal hybrid.
