Introduction:
According to DENATRAN (National Department of Transit) in December 2013 the total Brazilian fleet was 79 million vehicles including 21 million (26.5%) motorcycles. Every year 5 million new vehicles are introduced in the fleet including 1.2 million motorcycles.

In the last 15 years, the number of motorcycles in the Brazilian fleet has increased significantly due to the following two main reasons:
• Increase the purchasing power of workers with low educational level, which now use it as an alternative to poor and expensive public transport system.
• Increased demand for express delivery services in major urban centers, such as São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, etc.

Almost 90% of the Brazilian fleet of motorcycles is composed with 125 cc and 150 cc engine versions. They are small and low with respect to cars and trucks. Administrator of DPVAT the Compulsory Insurance Policy, in 2013 were recorded 54,767 Brazilians were killed on road and traffic accidents, of which 22,454 (41%) related to motorcycles, and 12,048 (22%) were drivers aged between 18 and 34 years old.

Brazilian law requires that transit drivers of motorcycles wear helmets for protection.

Lite for Life – Concept
Starting from the premise of the low height of the motorcycle, where it becomes hard to see the turn signal lights and brake light, we believe that the best way to improve this view would be to raise these functions to the height of the driver's helmet since it is required and compulsory. The Light for Life comprises two main modules:
• Emitter Module (ECU), installed close to the motorcycle battery, it transmits via radio frequency (433.92 MHz) turn lights signals, brake light and stand by light to the receiver module.
• Receiver Module is combined lamp with the LED's for turn signal left/right signal turns, brake light and stand by light, with a receiver of RF signals emitted by the transmitter module circuit. It is powered LI-ION 3.7V 750 mAh battery, which is able to operate the system for up to 24 hours. This module is attached to the helmet by adhesive tape.

This system enables every direction signals or brake signal in the motorcycle to be displayed in the helmet’s signal.
The main objective of the Light for Life is to raise the visibility of the direction signals generated by the motorcycle in order to improve the visibility for the car drivers. (see attached video).
