Improving automotive safety is one of the major aspects in today’s automotive industry. “Anti-Sinking Airbag System” deals with the automotive safety in passenger vehicles i.e.
a)Avoids the vehicle sinking in a body of water.
b)Protection during the fall of the vehicle from higher altitudes
c)Reduces damage from a High Impact Collision

The inflation of an airbag is a chemical reaction i.e. igniting sodium azide powder. When the vehicle experiences an impact the sensor gets actuated and an electric current is passed to the canister (metal container with sodium azide + igniter compound). The current heats the igniter compound and starts the decomposition of the sodium azide and the generation of nitrogen gas to fill the air bag. The air bag is fully inflated is only 30 milliseconds, or 0.03 second. Since this process is quick and rapid it can be highly reliable.

PLACEMENT OF AIRBAGS
1.Two airbags along the sides of the vehicle each i.e. below the doors of the vehicle.
2.Two airbags on the front and rear side of the vehicle each.
3.Two airbags on the roof of the vehicle.

PRINCIPLE
a)DURING THE SINKING OF THE VEHICLE
The driver is able to activate the manually operated switch on the dash board and the entire airbag system gets inflated thus avoiding the car from sinking in water due to the density difference and the buoyancy effect of the airbags (calculate w.r.t. dimensions of major sedan vehicles). After the inflation of the airbags the vehicle would be able to propel provided that water does not enter the air-filter. The vehicle is installed with a roof-top shutter which would make the passengers able to exit the vehicle.
b)DURING THE FALL OF THE VEHICLE
On a fall from a high altitude (hill or plateau) or during a roll over, the vehicle consists of a tilt sensor that gets actuated as the vehicle exceeds an angle of 80 degrees w.r.t the horizontal plane. This sensor sends a signal to the canister thus inflating the airbag system and providing maximum protection to the passengers and the vehicle.
After the vehicle lands safely the doors of the vehicle opens automatically due to the TNT explosive technology thus enabling the passengers to come out of the vehicle safely.
c)DURING A HIGH IMPACT COLLISION
On a collision, the pressure sensor of the vehicle gets activated and inflates the front and rear or the side airbags depending on the actuation of the sensors thus preventing the vehicle from maximum damage.

MATERIAL FOR AIRBAGS
The material for the airbag is an important criteria since all the pressures initiated for safety would directly be acted on the material of the airbag. Bursting of the airbag would lead to the failure of the entire system.Nylon 66 is one of the thinnest and strongest fibers which is used in various fields like bullet proof jackets, space research satellites etc. Nylon 66 is able to withstand a high amount of stress, which is able to overcome the stresses associated with the safety of the vehicle and would thus be reliable.
