Huckleberry's Hammer is a multi tool designed by a truck driver for truck drivers which combines many necessary tools into one compact, light-weight, yet sturdy tool.

As the name suggests, this tool combines a hammer for thumping tires, frozen brake drums, trailer door latches and padlocks. There is a chisel for chipping ice off of pintle hitches, popping lights out of rubber grommets and opening metal flanges on glad hands. What makes this tool unique, is the collapsible hook that expands the tool from 17 inches to 29 inches that can be used to pull 5th wheel and tandem releases. It can also be used to close roll-up doors and pull the cables for the air tank drains.

There is a 5/16" rod that runs through a hole in a pipe cap into the handle. The rod inside the pipe is threaded 1 1/2". A nut is seated against the end of the threads. A 5/16" rubber hose that is 1/2" long is positioned between that nut and a lock nut. As the lock nut is tightened, the hose will expand against the inside of the pipe which causes friction that makes the hook stay where you want it. The rod is bent on the outside of the cap to make a hook. To extend the hook, just pull it out and to collapse the hook, push it in.

One of the biggest benefits of this tool, is the reduction/elimination of back and shoulder injuries due to not having to be bent at an awkward angle to release the 5th wheel. Drivers clothes and trucks stay cleaner because grease doesn't get on their clothes from reaching under their trailers. Since the hook collapses, it fits neatly into a backpack or duffel bag.

With 3.5 million truck drivers in the U.S. alone and many hundreds of thousands in the world, there is plenty of market potential. Huckleberry's Hammers would be useful for all types of drivers--those pulling vans, doubles, tankers, flat beds, day cabs, and even farmers. Trucking companies could give them as safety tools, driver appreciation gifts and/or driver awards. The tool can be mass produced using automated machines.

Currently, there is a chain-up tool attachment for tire chains and more possibilities on the horizon.
