Objective :
1.Set up an automated system to empty the garbage bin when it is full. 2.Set up a control room near the residential area/public places which will coordinate in the proper operation of the solid waste treatment plant. 3.Treat the solid waste before taking it to the main disposal plant.

Abstract :

Project Introduction
In the present day scenario, we come across the garbage bins or Dustbin which are placed at public places in the cities and can be seen overflowing due to increase in the waste every day. It makes the surrounding unhygienic for the people and spreads bad odour around the surroundings. This can lead to spreading of various deadly diseases & cause human illness. To avoid such a situation we propose to design an "IoT Based Municipal Solid Waste treatment plant for Smart Cities". In this project there will be multiple dustbins placed throughout the city or residential society. These dustbins will be fitted with a sensor based embedded system which will detect the overflow of waste in the bin. As the bin is full, the unique identification number of the filled bin will be sent to a control room nearby. The control room will signal a special vehicle which will follow a black line path and collect the waste from the filled dustbin and take it to the treatment plant nearby. In the treatment plant, the special robots will separate the plastic and metallic material and will take it to the disposal unit for further processing.

Problem Definition:
As all of us are aware about the improper maintenance of dustbins in the city and because of improper disposal of waste, it spreads bad odour and pollute the area which results in the spread of harmful diseases around the locality. The present system of waste disposal is not effective as it is time consuming, trucks go and empty the dustbins whether it is full or not and it is very costly to maintain them. Looking at these problems our proposal will solve this as real time information is provided when the dustbin is full and it also improves environment quality. Also the various components of the solid waste are separated in the small treatment plant near the dustbins.

Project Description:
The idea is to manage the smart bin by monitoring the status of the bin and sending this information to the control unit that signals the robotic car to take the defined action. There are multiple dustbins located in the city and these smart bins will be interfaced with the microcontroller with IR sensors. The IR sensors will detect the level of solid waste in the bin and microcontroller sends the information to the control unit. The control unit will signal the waste collector robotic car to empty the bin.
