BelleT has developed a comprehensive skin monitoring system that can monitor skin conditions (at various body locations: face, neck, hands, body and hair etc.) from multi-aspects including skin moisture and glow, UV exposure, skin and skincare product pH values, to provide personalized optimal guidance and recommendations.

This system is composed of a rechargeable BLE wearable (to collect data), an app and cloud with AI-based data analysis, which is unique in 4 ways:
1) The miniature design allows packaging of multiple sensors into a compact jewelry-look wearable (27mm x 27mm) and performs simultaneous measurements from various sensors
2) Proprietary multi-sensor interaction logic allows automatic adjustment settings of a sensor based on readings of other sensors for optimal results
3) Proprietary recommendation engine that uses interaction analysis and objective user data & AI to provide an aggregate skin analysis and recommend skincare regimen based on user’s own profile, multi-aspect trending data, lifestyle and product ingredients, besides large-scale database.
4) Prevention and early detection of unnatural aging using data in 3) especially user's multi-aspect trending data

As a result, compared to the current state of the art, this system is substantially different and takes care of the function, the look and user convenience all in one:
a) More reliable skin analysis due to using multi-aspect objective data, instead of using a single sensor, questionnaire or selfie
b) More reliable recommendations because of using user specific objective data and interaction analysis as described in 3)
c) More convenient (no need to carry a bigger handheld device with a single sensor in your purse) to do handy simultaneous skin measurements and automatic continuous UV monitoring (no need to adhere an uncomfortable patch onto your skin)
d) Appealing trendy look for various wearing locations and wearing styles (won’t get bored as a traditional fitness wearable)

We design for manufacturability. The device consists of a PCB assembly, a housing and a charger. The parts selected mostly are off-the-shelf and at very low cost. Key sensors made in-house are designed to be easily massively produced and cost-effective. The easiness of assembly procedure has been tested in making working prototypes.

The skincare product market is huge ($134.5B). Established companies are actively looking to incubate or acquire “connected beauty” devices (which are emerging) to augment their traditional products. These digital products are meant to appeal to relatively younger and more tech-savvy consumers. The global market for this beauty device is people 25-65 yrs old - 3.7B users. Examples of successful entrants into adjacent markets (general wellness) include Fitbit.

We design for everyone. Our preliminary user testing (25 users) showed almost all rated this platform as useful and easy-to-use in their skincare and anti-aging routine. Preliminary human studies also showed promising data. We had initial discussions with several established skincare companies (all showed interest) and one option is to OEM the product.

Current skincare market doesn't meet most women's and men's needs. Too many cases of trial & error happen, which are wasting time and money. Moreover, a lot of people are taking care of their skins inappropriately (most just buy expensive new anti-aging products) due to lack of understanding of their own skin. How to keep skin healthy and look young?

This design idea comes from home use remote patient monitoring devices. The skin is our largest organ, so we should take good care of it scientifically as other parts of our body. Why can't skin be easily monitored and quantified just like blood pressure and oxygen? A single aspect of monitoring may not be adequate, so related risk factors need to be taken care of, too. A wearable system is the best to take measurements easily at any time and any place.
