Plastics Recovery in Oceans and Rivers

We have developed technologies to capture and process plastics from the open ocean and rivers. Our technology is unique in that it is minimally invasive, which is a very important aspect of working in the ecologies needed to be cleaned. As an added benefit, the captured carbons, in the form of plastics, are then able to be utilized for products.

Our program takes a holistic approach to the capture, processing, storage, and conveyance of the plastics as part of one operational system. With this cyclic approach, we are able to reduce our own carbon footprint, increase efficiencies, and simplify the process down to an end product available to manufacturing. Most proposed systems rely on other companies and groups to solve parts of their equation, and often opens the system for failure points. Keeping this in our own supply chain of sourcing to deliverable product to the manufacturers' dock, is an important part of the adoption of higher cost of recovered plastics vs unprocessed raw supply from the plastics manufacturers.

We also address the three largest and most readily available sources of plastics to be recovered- open ocean, sea floor, and rivers. While beach cleanup is a needed and noble effort, and as prevention efforts continue to make progress, we still have billions of pounds of plastics needing to be removed from the environment, as soon as possible.

By focusing on these areas, we are aware there are very few studies to quantify the impact of working within these ecosystems. While our designs are the least invasive that have been published, we are still very concerned about the impact of our recovery operations. Therefore, we still incorporate and support the scientific and conservation communities to help us study these areas by including labs, platforms, and programs onboard the base ship in our design, with additional support from onshore academic and commercial organisations.

As the human population becomes more aware of negative health, food safety/security, climate change, and economies, with your help we can work to minimise the impact of this impending global catastrophe, and realise the hope of clean and healthy global hydrological system.
