Gear Transition Fuel Locking System

Present commuters often does frequent change in gears,clutching because of this much of the fuel is lost without any useful output.

System Design:
The method uses locking arrangement of fuel just entering before the cylinder during the time of clutching.The system cannot be applied to the vehicle at neutral as there is a chance of engine going dead. But using it during the transition period of the gears can result to saving some amount of fuel.The GTFL can be achieved by constructing a flap (similar to our food pipe to wind pipe flap) which is directly controlled by pressing of clutch.A lever mechanism is placed at the bottom of clutch pedal in such a way that it directly controls quantity of fuel entering into the system. The flap goes on covering as clutch is pressed and reopens as pedal is relaxed.

To make sure that engine doesn’t die out of fuel deficiency the starting motor turned on in case of complete clutch pedal press. This ensures that crank still rotates and fuel spark can start as soon as fuel enters the cylinder.

Fuel Locking System Working:
The GTFL is placed on midway of throttle valve and intake manifold terminal.It is similar to throttle valve but there is a cut on upper and lower side of valve to allow fuel to pass even if full clutch is pressed.The valve remains vertical if no clutch is applied but gradually with clutch press the GTFL valve closes in.

This system is based on assumption that crankshaft together with flywheel has sufficient moment of inertia to carry it through to next gear,which is credible because the clutch pressed moment is fraction of a second which cannot cause much angular velocity loss of flywheel due to friction.

First we consider average clutch time from 10 observations which come out to be 1.852.It is assumed that GTFL valve turning is linearly varying with time.So total graph is reduced to single stoppage of time interval of 0.926 second at 90 degree graph.Mass ratio of air to fuel in standard engines is 14.7:1.Using the density of petrol 737.22 kg/m3 and air density 1.2929 kg/m3,we have for a 1.2L engine,volume proportion of fuel to be 1.4318×10^-4 L.So this is the amount of petrol is consumed for every 2 revolutions of engine crank.On an average if we consider that engine runs at 2200rpm, so in 0.926 sec it turns 33.95 times.So 0.14318*33.95/2×10^-3 L of petrol runs in equivalent GTFL time.So ideally about 2.43071ml of petrol is saved by this system per clutch press.Considering an average person having a 1.2L engine automobile,uses clutch 90 times a day in 3-4hr drive,using GTFL he saves about 79.848Liters/Yr.

The GTFL system is an innovative mechanism for the petrol engines where we can economize fuel use by fuel cutting system during continuous gear shifting and frequent clutching. As per the design, analysis of the system & it is calculated that we can conserve fuel per vehicle is around 80 Liters/Year.
