Free Energy Harvesting Using Weight of the Vehicle Moving on the Road

The world will remain heavily dependent on fossil fuels such as oil, gas, and coal for the rest of this century for the purpose of power production. But if we don’t think about this then the day is not far where they all will be depleted. That’s is why the concept of extracting the free energy of the universe and to convert it to power to extend the lifetime of the system or to provide an endless power supply to the system has motivated many researchers towards this field.

In this developed system, we provide a new energy-conversion technique to convert mechanical vibration into electrical energy with an unprecedented power level of more than 3.25 watt out of subcentimeter vibration amplitude. The system is meant to be implemented in the speed breakers on the road to extract energy by the mechanical vibration produced by the weight of vehicles.

Novelty of the work:
The system is zero discharge and emission system. It promotes green free energy practice. The system is compact, efficient and durable with easy installation capability. The system has high durability and reliability. As the system is load centric, hence power losses are very minimum. Here we used a mechanical damper, day-night sensors, and torsion sensors to regulate the storage of energy produced by the battery at day time and directly to light in the night when the vehicle passes on it; This will minimize the conversion losses during the night.

Our system has an output of the steady power output of 3.25 watt when gears are installed on single side whereas it has an output of 6.5 watts when gears are installed at both the sides.
When analysis is performed on the road at real scenario, the following results were calculated-

Width of single lane road 3.75 m
Width of fabricated system 70 cm
No. of system can be installed in single lane 5X2=10
Steady Power Output (single lane) 6.5X10 = 65 Watts
No. of system can be installed in double line 10X2 = 20
Steady Power Output (double lane) 65X2 = 130 Watts

If three continuous bumps are provided-

Steady Power Output (single lane) 65X3 = 195 Watts
Steady Power Output (double lane) 130X3 = 390 Watts

Assuming 50 vehicles pass in one hour-

Steady Power Output (single lane) in 1 hour 9.75 KW
Steady Power Output (double lane) in 1 hour 19.5 KW

Hence, the method of free energy harvesting by using mechanical vibration can deliver a relatively larger, continuous power to a low impedance load from a vibrating body. This can be implemented at toll plazas, parking lots and another crowdy place where speed breakers are large in number. This generated power can be utilized in various ways- i) Lighting the street lights ii) Traffic lights iii) Road diversion indicators.
