A digital camera adapter that is inserted into a standard 35 mm camera as you would a film canister. The adapter replaces film and stores images taken by the camera in a digital format for download.

The advent of digital camera’s have rendered many fine, quality film based 35 m/m cameras obsolete. Many consumers and photographers still own these film based camera’s and would desire to continue using them

The re-useable digital camera adapter is an innovative opto-electronic consumer product device that replaces 35 m/m film and can be inserted into conventional film based 35 m/m camera allowing the camera to capture and store images in a digital rather than film based format. The market for a device that allows a standard 35 m/m camera to capture images in digital format could be huge. Purchasing such a device would be a cost effective way to preserve and elongate the life of these fine legacy 35 m/m film based camera’s.

The device takes the external shape of a standard 35 m/m film canister with a protruding “tail” piece that houses the digital sensor array. It is inserted into a 35 m/m camera body as you would insert a film canister. All electronics, rechargeable battery and image storage memory are contained within the “canister” portion of the adapter device.

A USB port is included in the canister section to provide access to the digitally stored images. Audible beeps will signal:

a) power status (on, off)
b) image capture.
c) maximum storage limit reached

The user powers on the adapter then places it into the camera as you would place a standard 35m/m film canister. Once the camera back cover is closed the device is ready to capture digital images. Operation of the camera body and lens are unaffected by the device. Each time the camera shutter is pressed, an image is captured and stored in the device. A beep will sound indicating to the user that the image was successfully stored. Many images can be stored by virtue of the built in memory array.

Upon removal of the device from the camera, the user connects the device to a personal computer loaded with application specific software and via the USB port downloads the stored images. The USB port would also serve as a means to recharge the device’s internal battery and access the adapters software.
