Efficient Power System Topology/Methodology

There is a major problem on the planet with air pollution from vehicles. This problem is causing major health problems with people in cities where the air pollution is prevalent. We are spending billions of dollars to try and fix the problem with the air pollution from vehicles, but we are not seeing the drastic change we need. Electric vehicles are said to be the answer, but these vehicles are also contributing to the issue due to the power it takes to charge the large battery, which in itself is a major issue. In addition to these issues, we also have an issue with fossil fuels to fuel the Internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.

To address these critical issues for our planet and humanity we have developed a power system methodology called Efficient Vehicle Power System (EVPS). This topology does not require new technology to be developed but uses existing power sources used differently to achieve increased power system efficiency. Since EVPS is a topology it is applicable to many different types of power sources and is independent of the type of fuel used with the power sources. The implementation in cars, trucks, buses, planes, ships and space vehicles will result in a reduction in energy use of three to eight times.

This topology uses an array of engines from smaller to larger that can be turned on or off to match the power requirements of the load, vehicle, as measured in real time. When an engine is not needed, it is turned off and not idled. The system performance is buffered by an energy storage device such as a battery. In this instance, the size of the battery can be 10 times smaller than in current electric vehicles or hybrid electrics. The reduction in size reduces the production costs of the battery almost linearly by 10 times. The size reduction reduces the overall weight as well. Acceleration performance is limited only by the electrical drive and how fast the battery system can source the power. Since the battery is never deeply discharged the lifetime of the battery is greatly extended.

The effects of the EVPS technology are enormous. The reduction of the battery costs will more than compensate any increased costs of a typical series hybrid electric vehicle, preferred arrangement, and higher power electric drive. This energy reduction will have a direct impact on the cost of energy, supply and demand. Reduction in the cost of energy will have a direct impact on the production cost and distribution of food, which will pave the way for significantly reducing hunger worldwide.

Also, the reduction in the use of carbon-based fuels will more than meet all of the Paris Climate Accord stated goals, and facilitate use lower energy density bio-fuels. The reduction in the use of carbon-based fuels will drastically reduce air pollution worldwide. Less air pollution will result in lowering the number of polluted crops and water sources, which also positively impacts overall health issues.
