Novel Integrated Motor-Generator

The novel integrated motor-generator (IMG) is an electromechanical system that produces electrical energy continuously after having received an initial input mechanical energy.

With reference to FIGURE 1, the IMG consists primarily of a rotor and a stator. The rotor includes a plurality of permanent magnets fixedly mounted to a shaft (not shown) for rotation therewith. As shown, the magnets are arranged in attraction mode relative to one another, their magnetic axes being parallel to a radial line.

The stator includes a plurality of bifilar coils disposed in close enough proximity to the permanent magnets. Two of the bifilar coils are field coils, while the remaining bifilar coils are generating coils. The field coils are connected to the generating coils through a diode. The generating coils have practically zero self inductance, i.e. the coils are wound such that they cancel their net magnetic field.

When the permanent magnets are given a push of say 1000 rpm, the flux from the permanent magnets cut the generating coils and induce an emf in the coils. The emf produces magnetic flux in the field coils, as it causes current to flow in the field coils through the diode. The field coils then exert motoring torque on the permanent magnets, keeping the permanent magnets in continuous rotation. Since the generating coils have practically zero self inductance, Lenz effect does not accompany the induced emf.

Energy produced by the novel IMG is limited by the design of the permanent magnets, the flux density of the permanent magnets, and the angular velocity of rotation only.
