Inspired by: My 26 years of academic and clinical experience in treating diabetes and diabetic nephropathy have inspired me to tackle Type 1 Diabetes (T1DM). Affecting 20 million people worldwide, with U.S. prevalence projected to triple by 2050, T1DM imposes an annual economic burden of .4 billion and causes devastating complications like cardiovascular disease, kidney failure, amputations, and blindness.
Despite medical advances, most T1DM patients struggle to achieve optimal glycemic control—not due to noncompliance, but because current treatments fail to replicate true pancreatic function. Even automated insulin pumps cannot fully emulate a healthy pancreas. The closest alternatives—pancreas and islet transplantation—are costly, invasive, require lifelong immunosuppression, and suffer from donor shortages.
The mPancreas Bio-Artificial Pancreas offers a Wearable biomimetic, scalable solution, restoring real-time physiological glucose regulation, paving the way for a true cure.
