A group of self-driven students from the University of Southern Denmark has designed, built and successfully flown the first ever box-blended wing drone.
This drone, with a wingspan of 1.5 meters can fly for ranges over 80km, carry 2 kg of load, and transports sensors and imaging equipment.
The drone has a box wing configuration, minimizing induced drag created by the generation of vortexes at the tip of the wings. It boosts an extra 20% efficiency compared to conventional aircraft designs.
It is powered by an electric motor and can do fully autonomous launch, way-point navigation and landing. The drone uses advanced materials in its construction: the monocoque tail and body are constructed in carbon fiber, sandwiched with a ...
The recent advances in state estimation, perception, and navigation algorithms have significantly contributed to the ubiquitous use of quadrotors for inspection, mapping, and aerial imaging. To further increase the versatility of quadrotors, recent works investigated the use of an adaptive morphology, which consists of modifying the shape of the vehicle during flight to suit a specific task or environment. However, these works either increase the complexity of the platform or decrease its controllability.
In this work, we propose a novel, simpler, yet effective morphing design for quadrotors consisting of a frame with four independently rotating arms that fold around the main frame. To guarantee stable flight at all times, we exploit an optimal control strategy that adapts on the ...
Many peoples travel through jungles and cross a river for many reasons, like for research and hiking and many others. While doing so, many peoples get attacked by wildlife when passing by because peoples are not aware of which animals are nearby. Animal attacks have been identified as a major public health problem. "Unprovoked attacks occur when the animal approaches and attacks a person(s) who is the principle attractant, for example, predation on humans. In 1997, it was estimated that up to 2 million animal bites occur each year in the United States. Injuries caused by animal attacks result in thousands of fatalities worldwide every year. Some of the world's deadliest animals include mosquitoes.which are estimated to kill about ...
The Pulsed Turbine Transvector Jet Propulsion concept is a recently developed adaptation to the Pulsed Turbine Rotor Engine and The Pulsed Turbine Jet Propulsion concept.
Please click on hyperlink below:
The transvector jet principle with optional water spray/steam thrust booster was envisioned to ensure ample thrust to vertically launch a VTOL jet propelled vehicle and speed up its transition to horizontal flight. This innovative idea could expedite the vehicle’s transition to horizontal flight from a vertical launch and consume less conventional fuel in the process.
Applying the same principle introduced by the Pulsed Turbine VTOL Gyro-Stabilized Jet Propulsion Platform, four identical Pulsed Turbine Jet Engines are linked physically by a central thrust vectoring transmission drive and also ...
Ultra-compact Very Low Frequency (VLF) Communication Systems for Underground, Underwater, and Hypersonic Flight
<Motivation and Innovation>
Radio frequency (RF) technologies have limitations that cannot fulfill specific requirements. For instance, underground and underwater are challenging environments due to the absorption of high frequency electromagnetic (EM) waves in dense media. For hypersonic communications, Very Low Frequencies (VLF) band signals have large EM wavelengths that can penetrate the plasma sheath layer with minimal loss, which is one of the well-known solutions in the community. However, conventional antennas rely on EM wave resonance, and therefore typically have a size of more than one-tenth of the EM wavelength, which is 10 to 100 km long at VLF band. Therefore, even an electrically small VLF antenna would have huge dimensions and enormous power consumption, which is impractical to ...
Innovative cycles in the emergence of fundamentally new types of gyroscopes last for a period of forty to fifty years, and the change from one to another occurs only after a serious breakthrough in physics and technology. Gyros can measure the course of a scientific revolution.
Today offered a fundamentally new type of power astatic gyroscope. The spherical rotor with magnets makes forced coherent oscillations around in a vacuum cavity of a stator with solenoids under computer control. The device can decide the problems of converting vacuum energy into electrical energy and generating entropic forces for move objects in space and on Earth (not a reactive way).
Good news - unusual gyroscope is already working!
The extremely simple formula ...
