Technology:
The sensor system is an intelligent damage detection “skin” that can be embedded into structures, providing a lightweight capability for in-situ health monitoring for space or aircraft vehicles, inflatables, deployables, extravehicular activities (EVA) suits, smart wearables, and other applications where prognostic impact damage monitoring might be critical. The use of flexible printed circuitry or rigid circuitry in senor panel systems can be customized for detecting location, damage size, and depth, or designed for particular environments such as detecting space debris damage and additional flux data information in an International Space Environment (ISS) flight demonstration experiment.
The damage detection system and options for use of flexible printed circuitry designs along with current work into the integration of multiple ...

Owners of helicopters may have staff who utilise helicopter flight time which is not charged out. Not only is this practice dishonourable but is also dangerous as numbers of critical helicopter components are time expired and have a finite safe flight/use time.

Conventional engine hour clocks can be manipulated to obtain any desired reading. Battery operated flight time clocks can also be disconnected by for illicit use of the craft. To be absolutely sure or flight time and engine hours the monitoring device or clock must be totally tamper proof.

This design utilises the fact that helicopter blades and for that matter other propellors and engines make a large ammount of noise. It is feasible to have ...

This invention was inspired by the recent spate of aircraft crashes in which the “black boxes” were damaged or unrecoverable, and (by comparison) the existing, semi-automatic buoy system used in modern military submarines. Recent crashes have highlighted the fact that flight data recovery is greatly hampered by the static nature of standard commercial flight recorders: the recorder must itself be physically recovered to recover the data. Submarine systems, by contrast, are designed to physically escape from a stricken vessel, surface, and actively transmit information about the submarine’s condition to potential rescuers. Because survival of flight data are essential, we propose to guarantee flight data survival through modal redundancy; augmenting existing flight recorders with telemetry, and two forms of physically-independent, ...

The Fractal Orifice Plate US9278362 is a platform technology upon which novel nozzle geometries for advanced fluid dynamics and spray applications are based. It is designed to produce a large class of non-canonical turbulent flows that can be tailored to specific applications based on a few simple parameters. Subsequently, the Fractal Orifice Plate offers a vast array of turbulence configurations effectively opening the door to a new realm of spray and flow control. The Fractal Orifice Plate is patented internationally in over twenty countries in the E.U., China and the U.S. for a diverse set of applications ranging from fuel atomization to combustion and power generation to industrial robotics.

Future Aerospace Assembly using HMI and Robotic Riveting (or Fastening)

HMI is Human Machine Interface and in the context of Robotic Riveting refers to the Riveting Team....the Riveter and the Bucker (the upper sidebar shows a classic Riveting Operation).

HMI remotely supervises the Robotic Riveting (or Fastening) operation via a computer screen on which a laser scan of the component being assembled by a team of robot pairs is overlaid on a CAD master image such that any deviation caused by preload or out-of-sequence processing is revealed by a change in colour of the overlay alerting the human supervisor to potential non conformance. (the middle sidebar shows the intent)

This innovative, new software system provides aerospace design engineers with a Windows-based, graphical user interface for design, analysis, development and simulation of aero-thermodynamic systems. This software has the benefits and advantages over existing simulation and performance design software tools by enabling the design engineers to rapidly synthesize, architect, re-parameterize, simulate and analyze new aero-thermodynamic systems with visual components.

The software allows simple and rapid assembly of design with built-in detailed physics and aero-thermodynamic properties of the gas turbine components. This software significantly increases the ability of the designer / simulation engineer to utilize his/her creativity and innovative skills to architect and configure gas turbine engine systems from an almost infinite possibility of interconnected, move-able and easily re-parameterized components on ...

I invented an advanced magnetic braking and ground maneuvering system for aircraft that implements axial flux motor/generators. The new system replaces the current friction based braking system with axial flux motor/generators eliminating the need to run the main engines or use of tugs for ground maneuvers, eliminating fuel burn currently required for ground maneuvering of aircraft wherein the innovative green technology makes it possible for aircraft to conduct ground movement with greater efficiency, economy, maneuverability, and safety with input from the flight deck under the pilots command and control with more effective braking and ground maneuvering of aircraft.

The in-wheel motor/generator is designed to be implement as a retrofit within aircraft that will reduce aircraft burn by up to ...

The idea consists of the creation of an electromagnetic propulsion system which can be utilized as an alternative for the propulsion by conventional jet engines used in modern day aviation. There are many theoretical proposals for various electromagnetic propulsion systems, but our idea makes use of the theory set out by Klaus Halbach in the 1980s. A basic approach is to run a propeller connected by means of a shaft to a motor that runs at a relatively high horsepower. The motor used to run the propeller produces a higher torque when compared to conventional dc motors with minimal core and iron losses. The motor in itself consists of a dual Halbach array arranged in a concentric pattern. A ...

The Problem:
In the early morning when I drove to the gate of a government facility, the sky was still dark. I stopped my car at the gate and raised my badge for the security guard to check. Many times I found the guard had difficulty seeing my badge because my car's headlights were bright while inside my car was relatively dark. I did not know if he really could compare the picture with my face or just “if it looks like a badge, it is a badge.” On the other hand, sometimes when the guard was standing at a dark spot, he might have a better chance to see me but I had difficulty to see the guard's ...
