Buildings are one of the most intensive consumers of natural resources and account for a significant portion of the greenhouse gas emissions that affect the environment. In the U.S., buildings account for 38% of all CO2 emissions and represent 72% of U.S electricity consumption, EIA (2008).
Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) are used by terrorists worldwide. These crude but effective explosive devices are easy to assemble, inexpensive and produce devastating results. Foreign and domestic terrorists have effectively employed these devices to undertake stand-off attacks as opposed to use of conventional weapons. Such use results in heightened public relations benefit while enabling anonymity.
A high pressure, permanent tube fitting and installation tool has been developed, as well as a serviceable, threaded fitting, to seal high or low pressure fluids and gasses. The installation tool (HFU or Hydraulic Fusing Unit), can generate over 7 tons of output force, with only 50 in-lbs of input torque required.

Many people do not realize that you can prevent a toilet from overflowing simply by kneeling next to the toiling and closing the water inlet valve by hand. Often they believe their only option is to plunge the toilet before it overflows. Even after learning this it is often forgotten during the next flood.
My tapless insert design allows solid body threaded inserts to be installed into simple drilled holes. Installation of the insert requires pressing the insert into the hole and using a bolt and washer to pre-load the insert. By eliminating the need to tap each hole this could save companies at least 50% in manufacturing time.
