Engineers and Students from across the World Compete to Build a Brighter Future
Engineering Innovation Award: $20,000 Grand Prize
New York, NY – The 15th annual “Create the Future” Design Contest is now open for submissions and runs through July 1, 2017. Contestants are asked to submit innovative product design ideas that benefit society and the economy for the opportunity to receive global recognition and win a cash prize of $20,000 USD.
The “Create the Future” Design Contest has helped stimulate and reward engineering innovation, and has brought attention to product designs that increase the quality of life, improve the efficiency and quality of healthcare, and help to reduce dependence on non-renewable energy sources.
The contest's principal sponsors are COMSOL and Mouser Electronics with Analog Devices and Intel as supporting sponsors. “Whether it's a startup or a big corporation, innovative ideas and new products are the pillars that make businesses grow,” said Bernt Nilsson, Senior VP of Marketing with COMSOL, Inc. “The Create the Future Design Contest inspires innovators to bring their products to market and gain recognition worldwide.”
"Fostering technical innovation has always been a major part of our mission at Mouser,” said Kevin Hess, Mouser Electronics Senior Vice President of Marketing. “We are very excited to again participate in this important event for engineers and students around the world.”
The annual event has attracted more than 12,000 product design ideas from engineers, entrepreneurs, and students worldwide from more than 100 countries. Previous grand prize winning entries include a hybrid electric technology for semi-trailers that reduces fuel costs and emissions; a non-surgical circulatory support device for the treatment of chronic heart failure; a computerized construction method that rapidly 3D prints large-scale structures directly from architectural CAD models; and an economical, rapid screening device that prevents foodborne illness.
This year’s categories include: Consumer Products, Electronics /Sensors/IoT, Aerospace & Defense, Automotive/Transportation, Machinery/Automation/ Robotics (sponsored by Maplesoft), Medical (sponsored by Schneider Electric), and Sustainable Technologies. In addition to product concepts, designs for products that have been introduced to the market within the past 12 months are eligible.
Contestants can enter for free, and either as an individual or as a team. An independent industry panel will judge the entries. Web site visitors are invited to vote for their favorite entry. For more information on the official contest rules, go to www.createthefuturecontest.com.

Railroads are an important part of a transportation system. But, while very efficient, the huge loads they carry along with a vast and aging infrastructure can cause incredibly costly accidents, in human and monetary terms. Wikipedia reports some 13 major train accidents during 2016 in the US alone,
The Major Problems:
➤~70% of fuel is wasted as heat in conventional engines/power-plants/waste-to-energy-systems which don’t combust the water/aquifers/air polluting fuel completely while also producing strong green-house NOx emissions. Fuel usage efficiency can be doubled without any emissions/pollutants.
During natural calamities, power failure is an important problem. Due to the power failure no work can be carried out. Also communication devices can’t be charged and it leads to important messages that can’t be transferred to anybody on an emergency condition.
As per a report published by the National Cyclone Risk Mitigation Project (NCRMP), India is extremely susceptible to natural hazards especially earthquakes, floods, droughts, cyclones and landsides. Power outages, one of the critical downfalls of such calamities, has plagued India for decades. In 2012, half of India’

Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) is a growing imaging technique in the medical field. It has advantages of being noninvasive, low-cost, and non-ionizing. In this, near-infrared light is used to assess blood volume and blood oxygenation levels. LiteScan transforms fNIRS capabilities into a wireless,
Airfoil wings make lift by changing the direction and pressure of the air that crashes into them as they move through the sky. The spinning cylinder wing design, using the magnus effect and has many advantages over traditional airfoils but also some disadvantages.
Nowadays people are destroying nature by overusing natural resources and dumping the waste back to the nature. This waste mismanagement contributes drastically to global warming. As the world population is continuously increasing, the accumulation of waste is also becoming a catastrophic problem making relevant management solutions more challenging.
