Aim of this is to present the alternative HEV (PHEV) concept, potentially more efficient than fuel-cell powertrains, which can in the same time compete with the conventional vehicles (CV) in retail prize, functionality and all drive situations!

THE PROBLEM:

Despite the progress of technical science the efficiency and power-output of internal combustion engines (ICE-Otto/Diesel) is still disappointingly bad:
*The Tank-to-Wheel energy efficiency …. generally less than 22% of the energy contained in diesel and 18% of that contained in petrol – the rest is lost as heat!
European Association for Battery Electric Vehicles, 2008*
Paradoxically - the inefficiency is frequently addressed on indispensable thermic losses, whereas by default its thermal efficiency depends exclusively from the compression ratio.
According ...

Vehicles on road are driven by the power delivered by the engine, which intern is limited by the Road Loads acting over the vehicle under driven state. Most common Loads are Aerodynamic and Rolling resistance.

By using the same concept for braking we can also improve the active safety systems in a vehicle.

It basically aims at increasing the Road Loads on a vehicle by reducing the tire inflation pressure and hence assisting in stopping the vehicle.

For this system, we will require to slightly modify the current types of tires and brakes used in automobile.

Most promising would be the use of SI tires used in combination with the brake peddle pressure sensor.

A peddle pressure sensor ...

The Problem:

Low air pressure tires skid and hydroplane more easily. This greatly consumes more fuel and reduces tire life. A Tire Pressure Monitoring System or TPMS is a system to monitor the air pressure inside the automobiles tires. TPMS alerts to dangerous low-pressure or under inflated tire conditions with both a visual and an audible alert. The existing TPMS systems are based on either pressure sensor or speed senor and uses very complex algorithms and technology. Obviously, the costs of such systems are not reasonable in particular.

The Proposed System- ATPMS:

Advanced Tire Pressure Monitoring System (ATPMS) uses the concept of proximity distance sensors. The sensor monitors the distance between the sensor to ground or ground ...

Aerial Armour for Vehicles

INTRODUCTION
Every year more than 1.3 million people die worldwide due to car accidents. As engineering students, it’s our passion to try to find solutions to such problems. For this purpose we wish to develop a system which can help in protecting lives of many people. The basic idea of this system is use of air bags outside the car which reduces the impact of collisions and most importantly these air bags will inflate before the collision. For this we will use the concept of fusion of sensors. We will use Lidar & hall effect sensors in our cars.

MOTIVATION: We were highly fantasised by the ...

The Aerostatic Suspension System is a mechanical contraption that achieves flotation in air of a vehicle and its load by means of a number of cylinder and piston sets (one per wheel). The pistons possess seals that impede the entrance of air as the piston moves within the cylinder. This creates a vacuum and also a couple of forces of opposing sense, which are responsible for the flotation. To complete the mechanism, an adjustable leverage device allows the adaptation of the suspension capacity to the actual load.

The main characteristic of the system is its low transmission of forces from wheels to vehicle, which translates into a perfect suspension comparable in quality to the cushion of air ...

Problem: In India, getting stuck in traffic is something that everyone has to go through every day. But how often do you see an ambulance with a person struggling for his life stuck behind you. You want to help by giving way, but you can’t cuz you are stuck in traffic and the vehicle before you ain’t moving.

In a developing country it is difficult for hospitals to afford rescue helicopters for the common man and on road the risk of patient dying on the way in an ambulance stuck in traffic is high. Drawing a median between the two, I bring to you a hybrid - AHELICAMBULANCE

How does it work?  For most of the travel course the ...

Aid2GPS is a failsafe system for localization of a vehicle, even at times when GPS is unavailable. It employs an optical flow sensing based odometry system and a digital compass to track position and orientation.

WORKING (in a nutshell): Initially a GPS reading is taken to globally localize the vehicle. The backup system then kicks in. Later when the vehicle enters a GPS denied region, the previously measured GPS location coordinates and backup system data are fused together to effectively localize the vehicle. We thus have a never-be-lost system for automobiles.

The system is currently implemented on a mobile robot platform. I am currently working on its data fusion, and map display. The optical flow - digital compass system ...

As shown in the figure, the main components of the system are an IC engine, an air compressor, a pneumatic air motor, two heat exchangers and two air storage tanks. For short journeys the vehicle can work only on pneumatic power stored in the tank which can be filled from any power source at home. For long journeys it can uses both the compressed air in the tank and an IC engine.

The engine powers an air compressor whose inlet is through a heat exchanger which is cooled from the gas from the tank (as the compressed gas expands it cools down, increasing its density). This cooler air at the compressor allows a larger mass of air ...

Heavy Duty Vehicles have been dealing with high under hood temperatures even before the Environmental Protection Agency mandated their antipollution requirements for October, 2002 engines and the engine manufacturers chose Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) to deal with these requirements. A major consequence of the mandates was an increase of 15-30% heat addition to the vehicle cooling system due to EGR. Future antipollution mandates are increasing the heat loads to the cooling system. The industry is approaching the problem as it has in the past by increasing the size of the heat exchangers which has no effect on reducing under hood temperatures, in fact it will increase them. Under hood temperatures need to be controlled with better under hood air ...

Air train
Air train is a very advanced version of a maglev Train. As we all know, maglev elevated train is one of the fastest trains in the world.

Air Train is the flying train in air which lead to run without need ground touch. When you board at one ground elevated station, the train is running in between wires which passes high electricity. Underneath the train we impart high strength magnet. As from electromagnetic concept as magnet move towards lower wire, resulting wire coil generate a magnetic field which repel the magnet movement, while upper coil tries to attract the magnet. These effects leads to suspension of complete train in between these wires and electric propulsion leads to ...
