Aim of this is to present the alternative HEV (PHEV) concept, potentially more efficient than fuel-cell powertrains, which can in the same time compete with the conventional vehicles (CV) in retail prize, functionality and all drive situations!
Despite the progress of technical science the efficiency and power-output of internal combustion engines (ICE-Otto/Diesel) is still disappointingly bad:
*The Tank-to-Wheel energy efficiency …. generally less than 22% of the energy contained in diesel and 18% of that contained in petrol – the rest is lost as heat!

Paradoxically - the inefficiency is frequently addressed on indispensable thermic losses, whereas by default its thermal efficiency depends exclusively from the compression ratio.
Vehicles on road are driven by the power delivered by the engine, which intern is limited by the Road Loads acting over the vehicle under driven state. Most common Loads are Aerodynamic and Rolling resistance.
By using the same concept for braking we can also improve the active safety systems in a vehicle.
It basically aims at increasing the Road Loads on a vehicle by reducing the tire inflation pressure and hence assisting in stopping the vehicle.
For this system, we will require to slightly modify the current types of tires and brakes used in automobile.
Most promising would be the use of SI tires used in combination with the brake peddle pressure sensor.

Low air pressure tires skid and hydroplane more easily. This greatly consumes more fuel and reduces tire life. A Tire Pressure Monitoring System or TPMS is a system to monitor the air pressure inside the automobiles tires. TPMS alerts to dangerous low-pressure or under inflated tire conditions with both a visual and an audible alert. The existing TPMS systems are based on either pressure sensor or speed senor and uses very complex algorithms and technology. Obviously, the costs of such systems are not reasonable in particular.

The Aerostatic Suspension System is a mechanical contraption that achieves flotation in air of a vehicle and its load by means of a number of cylinder and piston sets (one per wheel). The pistons possess seals that impede the entrance of air as the piston moves within the cylinder. Aid2GPS is a failsafe system for localization of a vehicle, even at times when GPS is unavailable. It employs an optical flow sensing based odometry system and a digital compass to track position and orientation.
WORKING (in a nutshell): Initially a GPS reading is taken to globally localize the vehicle. The backup system then kicks in. Later when the vehicle enters a GPS denied region, the previously measured GPS location coordinates and backup system data are fused together to effectively localize the vehicle. As shown in the figure, the main components of the system are an IC engine, an air compressor, a pneumatic air motor, two heat exchangers and two air storage tanks. Heavy Duty Vehicles have been dealing with high under hood temperatures even before the Environmental Protection Agency mandated their antipollution requirements for October, 2002 engines and the engine manufacturers chose Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) to deal with these requirements. A major consequence of the mandates was an increase of 15-30% heat addition to the vehicle cooling system due to EGR.
