A conventional supercharger is installed near the engine either above the cylinder block or in front of the engine. One of the problems of the installation of a supercharger at such a place is that as the engine gets heated to high temperature, the supercharger also gets overheated. The disclosed engine addresses the problem of climate change by increasing engine efficiency and decreasing emissions. A conventional four stroke poppet valve engine is modified to include a novel rotary combustion chamber (RCC) serving all cylinders in the preferred four cylinder format. The RCC contains an opening identified as the combustion valve which transfers the expanding combustion charge to each cylinder in succession as it rotates past each cylinder opening. Three major benefits produced by this engine are the limited heat range encountered in the RCC reducing heat transfer losses; better adaptability to hydrogen combustion; and the ability to incorporate many energy efficient and emission reducing features.

This innovative compressor is a hybrid design based on rotary vane compressors and compressors of other conventional types. It consists of an inlet guide plate, a stator, a rotor, an outlet plate and a vane. The design of the stator with the three-lobe inner contour was based on the envelope theorem. Adjustment of the compression ratio in a running piston engine as a function of operating conditions is recognized as an effective way to improve both light load efficiency and maximum output torque, and is perhaps the last major efficiency improvement available to piston engines in the quest to reach the 2025 CAFE standard of 54.5 mpg.
